Two options after a four-hour drive on a rainy, gray Ash Wednesday, and one more immediately apparent as I rushed to the office for a meeting: Grab one of the fast-food fish sandwiches I’ve seen advertised on roadside billboards for 200 miles, or call ahead to a mom-and-pop shop for gourmet grilled cheese and homemade tomato bisque. It’s amazing how we gravitate toward whatever is thrown at our consciousness, no matter how unappealing it is when we stop and think about it. Fortunately, I thought ahead for once.
